And for the traditional favorite of all time, check out this rare footage of the English romantic composer Sir Edward Elgar in 1931 conducting the famous excerpt from his March No. 1, Pomp and Circumstance. Composed in 1901, this classic masterpiece inspires dreams and warms hearts at  graduation.

Lyrics to “Pomp and Circumstance”

Land of hope and glory,
Mother of the free.
How shall we extol thee,
Who are born of thee.
Wider still and wider,
Shall thy bounds be set.
God who made thee mighty
Make thee mightier yet.
God who made thee mighty
Make thee mightier yet.

“Graduation is only a concept. In real life every day you graduate. Graduation is a process that goes on until the last day of your life. If you can grasp that, you’ll make a difference.” Arie Pencovici

Share a great graduation memory!

Excellence is the result of caring more than others think is wise, risking more than others think is safe, dreaming more than others think is practical, and expecting more than others think is possible. —Anonymous

As a fluatist and pianist, I’ve played for many graduations. It’s thrilling to watch grads in their caps and gowns march to “Pomp and Circumstance.”

As for my own graduation, I remember one big moment in college. Together as a class, we moved our tassels from the right to the left…then tossed our caps up in the air.

Does anyone remember the rage during graduations back in the 70’s? Perhaps it was just my high school…not sure I can post this!!! 😮

My favorite one was when my son graduated law school and became a lawyer. He is also a CPA. I am so proud of him.

Thanks, Joycey, for sharing your son’s impressive graduation from law school. You must be so proud…

I attended my district’s 8th grade graduation last night. It was a wonderful ceremony. The grads looked great and the principal gave a super speech. The chorus and band students gave their last performance, too, and the program concluded with a vocal solo, “We’ve Only Just Begun.”
